Privacy Policy
The short version
The numbers you type into the calculators never leave your browser. There is no account, no login, and no server that receives your salary, your age or your years of service. Everything else below is about ordinary web traffic data and advertising cookies.
Information you enter into the calculators
None of it is collected. Every calculator on this site runs entirely in your browser using JavaScript. Your salary, years of service, retirement age, filing status and any other figure you enter are processed on your own device and are never transmitted to us, stored by us, or shared with anyone. Close the tab and they are gone.
This is a consequence of how the site is built rather than a promise we have to be trusted on: the site is a set of static files with no application server behind it, so there is nowhere for your inputs to be sent.
Information collected automatically
Like almost every website, this one and the services that deliver it record standard technical information when you visit. That can include:
- Your IP address, which is also an approximate location indicator
- Browser type and version, and operating system
- Device type and screen size
- The page you visited and the page that referred you, if any
- The date and time of your visit
This data is used to keep the site working, understand which pages are useful, and detect abuse. It is not used to build a profile of you by name, and we do not sell it.
Cookies
A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to store. This site may set cookies to remember preferences such as your light or dark theme choice. Third parties, including advertising and analytics providers, may also set their own cookies when you visit.
You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings. Every major browser allows this, usually under Privacy or Security. Blocking cookies will not stop the calculators from working, though it may reset preferences such as theme on each visit.
Third-party advertising
This site displays advertising, and the disclosures in this section are the ones that advertising networks require us to make.
- Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website and other websites.
- Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.
- You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
- You can opt out of third-party vendor cookies for personalised advertising at aboutads.info/choices.
- Further opt-out options are available at the Network Advertising Initiative.
- Third-party ad networks operating on this site have their own privacy policies, which we do not control and are not responsible for.
Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove ads. It means the ads you see are less likely to be based on your browsing history.
Analytics
We may use a web analytics service to understand aggregate traffic patterns, such as which pension systems people look up most often and which pages they leave quickly. Analytics data is reported in aggregate and is used to decide what to write next and what to fix. It is not used to identify individual visitors.
Links to other sites
This site links extensively to government agencies and retirement systems, including the SSA, OPM, IRS and the eight state systems we cover. Those links are there so you can verify our figures against the source. Once you follow one, you are on their website and their privacy practices apply, not ours. We have no control over what they collect.
Children’s privacy
This site is intended for working-age adults planning their retirement. It is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will act on it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights over personal information held about you. Residents of the European Economic Area and the United Kingdom have rights under the GDPR to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of their personal data, and to object to it. California residents have comparable rights under the CCPA and CPRA, including the right to know what is collected and the right to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information.
Because this site does not maintain user accounts, we typically hold no information that identifies you personally. If you want to exercise any of these rights, or you want to know what we hold, email [email protected] and we will respond as required by the applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the site changes or as the law does. When we do, the effective date at the top will change. Material changes will be noted on this page rather than made quietly.
